Camp Facilities

The camp is situated on four acres, with buildings and sports facilities close to one another.  All are fully wheelchair accessible and designed with children in mind.

Main Building

On the main floor of this building is the Southampton Fresh Air Home conference room, along with the dining hall, the kitchen, and a multi-purpose recreation room.  Through sliding glass doors from the dining room, campers and visitors can go out to a large covered deck with tables, chairs and benches.  There are wheelchair accessible bathrooms on the main floor as well.

The top floor of the Main Building is staff quarters.  The Camp Director’s apartment is there, along with bedrooms and bathrooms for 22 staff.  The Counselors’ Recreation Room, with a pool table, books, chairs and sofas and a large screen television is also on this floor.  There is a large, fully accessible staff bathroom with shower on this floor, for any staff member in a wheelchair.

The Main Building of the camp houses its administrative offices and laundry on its lower floor. All three floors of the Main Building are accessible by elevator.

Camper Dormitories

The camper dormitories were finished in time for the 2008 camp season. All four are fully accessible, air conditioned, and give each bunk their own living space. They have spacious bathrooms and each dormitory has two sleeping areas with 6-8 beds in each. Upstairs there is accomodation for senior staff with a large open landing that looks down over each sleeping quaters, allowing staff to monitor campers while they sleep.

Swimming Pools

SFAH has two heated swimming pools.  The smaller pool is heated to 96 degrees, to ensure that all children at the camp can participate in its swimming programs.  There are accessible dressing rooms and bathrooms in the poolhouse.

There are ramps and lifts to aid children in entering and leaving the pools.

The Workshop

The Activities Workshop was completed in 2004, and houses the Otto Arts Studio and the Mulholland Computer Center.  It is fully accessible.

The Otto Arts Studio is a large and sunny space ideal for many activities. Arts and crafts, discos, indoor campouts, theater productions, plus many more happen here. The walls of the studio are lined with display spaces, so that children’s art work is displayed throughout their time at camp.

The Mulholland Computer Center is a state-of-the-art facility with wireless technology throughout.  The desks on which the computers sit are fully adjustable for each child, and there is a large screen and projector in the room, as well as large screen monitors at each station.

Sports Courts

SFAH has an adapted basketball court, and a full-size tennis court for its campers’ and counselors’ use.

The large open area in the center of camp serves as a field for a variety of sports and recreational activities.  Campers play adapted ball games and practice their golf strokes in this large open area.

Infirmary

The infirmary building was finished in June 2008. It is fully accesible and is in close proximity to the camper dormitories. It features a private bathroom, a three bed patient bay and an isoloation room.

Physical Therapy

The PT Building contains facilities for physical therapy provided by local therapists who continue the therapy services recieved by the campers during the school year.
