Parents Frequently Asked Questions

We try to anticipate questions you might have about our camp for your child. If you would like more information please contact the Camp Director at (631) 238-1594, or send an email to dbillingham@sfah.org

1.

What Type Of Medical Care Do You Provide?

There is a registered nurse on staff 24 hours a day.  A Southampton pediatrician is on call at all times, and sees campers in his office when necessary.  Southampton Hospital is three miles from the camp, and provides emergency care for our campers.

2.

Is There Financial Aid Available?

Yes.  Families requiring financial aid complete a Financial Aid Application and submit a recent tax return.  The Camp Director and Executive Director review all information and determine a fee for each applicant.

3.

Can My Child Recieve Physical Therapy During Their Time At Camp?

The camp can provide you with names of local East End therapists, and you may contact them about your child’s needs.  The camp has a private room that a visiting physical therapist can use to provide services to your child.

4.

Do You Accept Campers Who Are Incontinent?

Yes

5.

Do You Accept Disabled Campers?

SFAH accepts campers with a wide range of physical needs, ranging from those requiring assistance in eating, toileting, dressing and mobility, to those who are ambulatory and can provide all their own daily care needs.  Some of our campers use assistive devices for communication, and staff are trained to support these children as well.

6.

Can I Call My Child While They Are At Camp?

Like most camps, we ask that you do not call your child during camp.  Campers do send and receive mail and e-mail daily.  During the three-week sessions, there is a Visitors’ Day for family and friends.

7.

How Many Bunks Are There?

There are four bunks of campers: Younger Girls ages 8-12, Older Girls ages 13-16, Younger Boys ages 8-12 and Older Boys ages 13-16.

8.

How Many Campers Are In Each Bunk?

Each bunk can sleep 15 campers.  Generally there are 12 to 14 campers per bunk.

9.

What Is The Counselor To Camper Ratio?

There is one counselor for every two campers, every day.

10.

Do You Provide Transportation To/From Camp?

The camp is committed to assisting all families who do not have cars or wheelchair vans, in transporting their child to camp.  The camp provides a bus service from the New York area.  The camp also picks up children from New York City airports, and meets Long Island Railroad trains.  Staff will work with each family to ensure no child is excluded because he or she has no transportation to Southampton.
