The Southampton Fresh Air Home
Founded in 1901, the Southampton Fresh Air Home (SFAH) has been dedicated to serving children with physical disabilities for more than a century. Today—125 years after its humble beginnings—it stands as a premier sleep-away camp providing a safe, joyful, and empowering summer experience for youth ages 8 to 20.
Campers can choose from one-week or two-week sessions and enjoy a wide range of programs modeled after traditional summer camps, thoughtfully adapted to meet a variety of physical needs. Our adaptive sports facilities host activities such as swimming, basketball, sailing, tennis, and archery, giving campers the opportunity to build confidence, independence, and athletic skills in the outdoors.
Indoors, our vibrant arts center is filled with music, dance, drama, computers, cooking, games, and arts and crafts—allowing campers to explore new interests or deepen existing passions. With a fleet of accessible vehicles, we also take frequent off-site trips to local beaches, museums, concerts, sporting events, and other nearby attractions.

SFAH is a fully barrier-free campus that meets and exceeds ADA standards for children with physical disabilities. Our pristine grounds feature accessible swimming pools, adaptive sports courts, and a variety of activity buildings designed for safe, inclusive play.
Campers live in spacious, climate-controlled dorms equipped for comfort and supported by trained staff 24 hours a day. Our professionally staffed full-service kitchen offers a variety of kid-friendly meals to satisfy even the most selective eaters.
Medical care is available around the clock in the Mulholland Health Center, staffed by registered nurses with a physician on call at all times. Southampton Hospital is conveniently located just five miles away.
On-site therapy services are available, and transportation for campers is provided to and from New York City, making camp both accessible and worry-free for families.
At SFAH, children with physical disabilities are able to connect with peers, form friendships, and participate in a wide range of fully-adapted games, sports, and activities designed just for them. Our supportive environment encourages growth, creativity, and confidence, helping campers discover their abilities and interests in their own time and in their own way. Many children experience their first taste of independence, teamwork, leadership, and accomplishment here — and those moments often become milestones they remember for years to come.
Just as camp is a place for children to thrive, it also provides meaningful support to families. During the camp season and on retreat weekends, parents and siblings are able to rest and recharge, knowing their child is safe, cared for, and fully included. This respite gives families time to relax, travel, or simply enjoy everyday life without constant caregiving demands — returning home renewed and ready for the school year ahead.
