Camp Staff
Welcome to the Southampton Fresh Air Home Staff Page!
SFAH is seeking warm, nurturing, and empathetic individuals who are passionate about helping children and young adults with physical disabilities thrive. Our campers, ages 8–18, rely on our staff not only for support, but for friendship, encouragement, and meaningful connection.
As one of the most established and respected residential summer camps for youth with physical disabilities in the United States, we take great pride in delivering programs and care of the highest quality. Our philosophy is simple: there is no job too big or too small when it comes to creating an amazing community for our campers and for each other.
In addition to our dedicated year-round team, we welcome a wide range of summer specialists who help camp run smoothly and joyfully. Our seasonal staff includes:
· Medical professionals (with a registered nurse on-site 24/7)
· Dining services staff
· Laundry and housekeeping teams
· Maintenance and facilities crew

Many of our staff return year after year, which speaks to the strong sense of community and connection created at SFAH. All candidates participate in an interview process to ensure that every staff member reflects the values and culture of the Home. In addition, all staff members undergo an annual background check.
Each summer, SFAH employs more than 75 individuals, with approximately 35 working directly with our campers. Staff members join us from across the United States and from abroad, including Europe, bringing diverse experiences and perspectives to camp life.
Most staff have completed at least one year of college, and many are pursuing careers in fields related to disability support, education, healthcare, or human services. Our average staff member is 20 years old, 95% live on-site, and we maintain a 2:1 camper-to-staff ratio to ensure individualized attention and care.
To support staff wellness and connection, SFAH provides a dedicated recreational area equipped with TVs, computers, and a gym. Staff may also enjoy a camp-provided bus for outings and a fleet of bicycles available for on-campus use.
The camp season begins in late June and concludes in mid-August. All staff members are required to participate in a pre-camp orientation that begins seven days before campers arrive. Some roles also require additional training, which may take place prior to orientation. SFAH offers on-site Lifeguard, Water Safety Instruction, First Aid, CPR, and Trip Leader certification courses for qualifying staff.
